Isn’t this a bit premature?

I find the quote on the flyer highly ironic.  Isn’t that the sort of statement liberals and secularists bash president Bush for?

I haven’t blogged much about abortion yet.  I don’t know why.  That won’t last long, given the proclivities of president-elect Obama.   Neil’s post will suffice for now, however. I couldn’t put it any better.

A gay Bible. You have got to be kidding me.  I don’t know what’s more depressing: the thought that this Bible was made or the thought that countless sheep will buy its views, no questions asked.

Lastly, Randy Elrod posts some good reminders on how to avoid going bonkers during the “other” crazy season (the first crazy season being election time).  All reminders are important for me, but #4 sticks out in my mind

  1. Thanks for the link!

That poster makes me want to throw up. He mocks the Bible. He is the most pro-abortion person in Congress. He denies that Jesus is the only way to salvation.

Yet he leverages his “Christian” faith to get elected?!

  2. P.S. What exactly is the Lord’s work in his view – radically removing all restrictions to abortion? Taking money from some people and giving it to others? That’s not charity.

  3. Neil,

Ya, a lot of politicians leverage Christianity that way. We are all too easily fooled.

I agree with your P.S too–he talks about caring “for the least of these” yet he fails to care for the *real* “least of these” (i.e the unborn)…in fact, he goes out of his way to make sure they are trampled on.

I just wanted to comment on the “gay bible” – actually I want to specifically comment on the comments made on that page.

I’m simply wondering where Christ-like love is? It seems that anytime the Gay community does… well… anything, we’re quick to jump at their throats and berate and belittle them. I’m most definitely not saying that this “bible” is anything but one of the devil’s schemes. On the other hand, it seems that whenever the topic of homosexuals comes up we’re quite adamant about showing our great displeasure (even dare I say hate?) towards that group. Where’s the love? How can we conceivably expect any of these people (whom God loves) to desire a relationship with Christ?

Anyways, that’s my 2-cents. I’m glad I discovered this blog a few days ago. I’ve enjoyed it thus far.

    James 2:8-13

  5. Thomas,
Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate the compliment.

About your concern: I agree that sometimes we certainly can get ugly with those we disagree with, especially on the homosexuality issue.

This doesn’t mean, however, that we misinterpret a tough moral stance with hatred or put it opposite “Christ-like love.” As I noted earlier in a post on Tony Jones (who is acquiescing to homosexual behavior. He pretty much refuses to call it sin.), many times love means taking a hard line on sin. Sin hurts the one we love, so we cannot compromise with soft words.

I don’t think you are making this mistake (I can’t tell for sure but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt), but it needs to be said.

Also, this incident is so cartoonish that I think a bit of mocking is fine. Some things need to be laughed at (refer to many OT prophets and their confrontation with the pagan gods of the day, and even refer to Jesus a few times…He used humor). After all, they tear The Word of the One we love to pieces, they play such cavalier games with *our* holy book, and they expect us to play nice? There’s a difference between mocking and words meant to wound, though, so I agree with you partly.

  6. How has Obama mocked the bible? I need some clarification.

  7. I was referring to the gay Bible, not Obama.

But that being said, I do think he plays fast and loose with the Bible.

Yeah, I’m definitely not saying that we need to compromise the truth. Homosexuality is sin. Period. And, yes, sometimes we need to treat people with tough love.

But that’s my very question: are we loving the gays, like God does?

I’m not suggesting at all that we down-play their sin. It’s not right to be gay. It’s completely and totally wrong… just like adultery is completely and totally wrong… just like murder is completely and totally wrong… just like lying is completely and totally wrong… (I think you get my point).

I’m just wondering if we’ve taken to playing favorites? Christians will picket gay-pride parades with signs declaring that all the participants are going to burn in hell. (I have many issues with this sort of thing… but to my point). Is that “tough love”? I personally don’t see any love in that sort of action. Rather, wouldn’t “tough love” be more along the lines of pulling the gays aside and letting them know that even though they’ve involved themselves in a lifestyle of sin, that God loves them, and if they repent He will forgive them (and so on)?

  9. I do agree we need to make it a point to show that what we hate is the sin not the person. We need to treat gays with love but we cannot stand and let things like prop 8 pass. The gay community is really active in seeking to make gay become a norm.

That we cannot stand. We need to make it clear that being gay is not normal. We have to stand for what we believe and make sure that things like marriage, our kids eduation are not manipulated into any view that is contrary to the one prescribed by our creator.
